Najaat Makki is one of the founders of the fine arts movement in the United Arab Emirates. In her artistic practice, she has focused on a symbolic expressionist style. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1982 and obtained her PhD in Fine Arts in 2002. She has participated in local, Arab, and international exhibitions, representing the UAE in global forums through exhibitions and art workshops. She has also supervised numerous artistic programs and forums. She was awarded the UAE State Appreciation Award in Science, Arts, and Literature (Second Edition) in 2008. She received the Jury Prize at the First Sharjah International Art Biennial in 1993, the Second Prize (Silver Medal) at the International Al Mahabba Biennial in Damascus in 1999, and the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Government – Ministry of Culture in 2023.
